CareerPorts' Clusters

Introduction

CareerPorts were written and developed based upon the 16 career clusters originally outlined by the Department of Education. This unique curriculum places students in a virtual working environment while exploring career opportunities in Business, Education, Engineering, and Health. Career clusters group 21st-century employment opportunities according to their commonalities, creating clear pathways for students, schools, parents, and businesses to consider when organizing career-related instructions and core content learning programs.* As a result, CareerPorts content falls within the career pathways being used in most career-prep, career-tech, or career academy programs.

Each CareerPort is designed to be completed in approximately 45 hours (9 weeks), allowing for the creation of a year-long, career-focused academy within any of the career cluster areas (4 CareerPorts x 4 quarters = 1 year), and includes the following curriculum features:

  • Online access to curriculum content and resources
  • Audio support for all on-screen content
  • Career-related, hands-on activities and software
  • Easy-to-access online classroom management tools
